SLOW
BIRTHING
a cocoon of wellness

World Children’s Day, November 20th, 2024
My dearest Dr D Vasanthi,
In a world where textbook-qualified physicians/surgeons/therapists are as ignorant, cowardly and vacuous as they are apathetic, arrogant and avaricious, you stand out as a beacon of excellence, integrity and elegance. As a high-calibre individual, your unique qualities shine brightly, reminding us that darkness is necessary to appreciate the light.
From you, a surgeon par excellence who brings life into the world, I learned about the true meaning of birthing. You singularly birth—
Conscience
Dignity
Brilliance
Confidence
Ownership
Compassion
Clarity
Endurance
Contentment
Depth
Abundance
Authority
Independence
Open-mindedness
Enterprise
Generosity
Self-reliance
Dependability
Learning
Strength
In bringing each quality to life, the higher spirit ensures I celebrate you and learn from your being.
Your life’s journey has enhanced your intrinsic depth, which speaks to your capacity to listen non-judgmentally and feel others’ pain and sorrow. You offer the best—kindness, encouragement and wisdom—with boundaries intact. I wish I could say that therapists and psychologists (the ones I have encountered) must take a leaf out of your book; alas, their parched spiritual and intellectual existence, fused with their hostility and hypocrisy, makes them unfit to be an alphabet in your book. There is a marked difference between those who work to sustain an existence and individuals whose principles and values aid their profession. In my life experience, only you, Dr. Vasanthi, fall into the latter blessed category. Moreover, you are the only human I know walking god’s path.
I am fortunate to have known you since my early twenties and grateful to be loved by you. With you, the parentified me can be a child; my tears afford dignity; my joys are celebrated; my scars heal; my sensitivity is cherished; my fears are sheltered; my poetry is appreciated, and my strength of character is valued. And yes, my demands for strong coffee are accommodated and stealing your pickles is not only pardoned but also encouraged!
On World Children’s Day, in sharing my sentiments, I hope other scapegoats, systematically orphaned, isolated, demonised, punished and ostracised in the presence of and with the wilful participation of cruel enablers, find blessed souls like you to embrace them—to discover their merit and strength to honour life and living.
I am grateful for your grace.
Yours,
H
