“A rhythmic orchestra is in motion, presenting the interdependent cycle of replenishing benevolence. The rain causes the sloping bird bath to swell, which in turn flows down onto the grassy floor, while droplets from rain-drenched trees fill the basin. In the sheltered comfort of the all-embracing basin, leaves with fading vitality sink and birds with youthful vigour bounce.
“PLONK.” A loose bunch of leaves drop into the basin, dispersing water and creating a paper marbling effect, reminiscent of the Buddhist concept of rebirth and liberation. I shift my gaze from the source of wellness to the commotion—noisy, industrious squirrels swing from young branches. I wonder when a squirrel or two or three will lose their grip and tumble into the bird bath.”
